Pinup Series: Classic Pinup

Howdy.

As you may have noticed by ways of my subtle use of retina-jarringly bright colours, I like having fun with sassy hues. I am, however, aware that most people are not comfortable sporting these shades. And believe you me, I can still have my fun with neutrals too.

To cater to my viewers, I am starting a series! Starting with this classic pinup/Hollywood/red carpet/retro look, I will be taking the concept of the traditional 50's look as far as my puny brain can go. I want to keep the idea of winged liner and bold lip colour with a certain method of eyeshadow application and stretch it in different directions. Can't wait to film my next one!

Sixites Inspired Makeup - HD

Why haloo there.
I should have posted this the day I uploaded the tutorial, but oh well.

In this video, I did a sixties INSPIRED makeup look. Obviously, every person alive in the 1960's did not walk around looking like this, and there are other variations of this style. Also, I didn't put falsies on, though thick lashes were a MUST in this period... not that I was there, but--

I felt like wearing baby blue eyeshadow and thick liner, so :) Enjoy!

Christina Aguilera Inspired Look from The Voice

I loveeee Christina Aguilera's makeup on the voice! Well, most of it anyway.
This is a classic retro golden eye with a red lip. I absolutely LOVE how red lips look on me; I don't wear them enough.
Inspiration photo:
I will say that I do not love every aspect of this makeup. I feel like the cheek contouring is a bit much for her face shape, and the lip colour could have been applied more smoothly. But I love the concept of gold smoky eyes with a cut-crease and cat-liner, paired with a red lip. Bear in mind I look nothing like her, and my skin-tone is much more yellow-toned.

When doing stage makeup, take into consideration the fact that bright lights will be shining on you. You may need to re-sculpt the features of your face because lights can wash them out.
You can do this by subtly tracing along the sides of your nose with a touch of bronzer, contouring your cheekbones, temples and jawline, and a touch under the bottom lip.
Keep your skin matte and use a slightly shimmery pale highlight down the bridge of the nose and tops of cheekbones and on top of the cupid's bow to accentuate those features.

This is the makeup I wore to my school talent show. I took these photos after a 14-hour day of rehearsal, then work, then rehearsal, then my show. Woot! Hooray for makeup that sort of kind of lasts! I did NOT reapply lip colour at all. And I couldn't find my gold glitter: Sugarpill's Goldilux, which I used on Pooja.

Moving on... :)

Liz Taylor Inspired Retro Classic Look

I recently saw "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", based on the play by Tennessee Williams. I was disappointed by the censorship in the film, but not my the makeup that William Tuttle did! I chose not to shade in the crease like Liz Taylor had in the movie, and I went for a darker lip colour. But the winged liner and lashes, glowy cheeks, red lips and strong arched brows are my favourite part of this classy look.

Loooove the classics!
 Closeups...
Eye of the  ball
Notice the awesome lash inserts I used to elongate the liner even more.

Da lip.

Pinup on Redheads

This is Amanda. She is gorgeous.
I decided to do a simple, timeless look on her that could suit practically anyone, if it is tweaked a bit for different skin tones.
She had some makeup on already that I had to work around.
Cellphone was all we had for pictures.

Gorgeous!!!

Looking down
 Closeup!
Because Kanga-Rouge is actually that awesome!
Ok so I love this lipstick! Red looks fantastic on reds! Unfortunately, Kanga-Rouge was limited edition from a MAC collection a few years ago called Dame Edna. It was re-promoted this year but I did not know about it. A close dupe is MAC's MAC Red.

Products Used:

Face:
-Benefit Boi-ing concealer #01
-Nars Orgasm Blush

Eyes:
-Urban Decay Primer Potion
-Inglot Eyeshadow #351 (cream colour all over eyelids)
-Urban Decay Naked Palette:
  • Buck (traced along the crease, outer lower lashes)
  • Naked (to blend Buck up a bit)
-NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk (inner corners, waterline)
-Inglot Eyeshadow #496 (sparkling white, inner corners on op of NYX pencil, browbone)
-Rimmel Glam'Eyes black liquid liner (sort of cat-eye shape)
-Whatever mascara she was already wearing

Lips:
-Revlon Black Cherry Lipstick (outer corners of mouth, and slightly around lips shape)
-MAC Kanga-Rouge (THE best red ever. All over lips)

Amanda should model. Non?
